‘Just friends’ Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra quarreled and stopped talking to each other for some time recently, but have now made up. This is what happened.
Rani, who has been closely associated with Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films (YRF) in the recent past, has helplessly watched her career slide as her recent films (Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Saawariya, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Ta Ra Rum Pum) have bombed with a sickening regularity.
What she is peeved about most is that even YRF is now starting to distance itself from her. She has just one film on hand with them, that too by a debutant director.
“Rani has not been considered for any more projects by them,” a source tells Sawf News. “No more female oriented or central character based roles for her under the banner.”
“She is going through the leanest patch of her career and she expected Adi to stand by her,” the source adds. “But seeing her sagging brand value, Adi chose to concentrate on what sells rather than his obligations to a friend.”
Adi and Rani’s differences came to a head when Rani spoke to the media recently about her upcoming film, revealing that in it her character impersonates a male, sporting a moustache, because she is desperate to play cricket!
Leaking details, even inconsequential ones, about a film’s plot is a big No! No! when you work with YRF.
“When Adi confronted Rani over it, all her frustration burst out and she answered back bluntly stating she has no control over what media chose to write! Their argument spiraled increasingly out of control with Rani accusing Adi of being a changed person.
“After they quit slanging they stopped talking to each other. A few days later, when Rani visited Yash Raj studios on an errand she avoided Adi who was present in the studio premises at that time. Similarly, Aditya was conspicuously absent from Rani’s recent house warning party.
“Aditya eventually initiated reconciliation and called a meeting. Since then they are back to being the same good friends that they have always been,” our source concludes.
The two were seen laughing and talking in the studio on Monday, August 25. They left at around the same time in the evening. While Adi headed straight to his home, Rani went on to attend a book release function at Hotel Orchid, near the Mumbai domestic airport.”
