Lara Dutta, the scriptwriter

If you were an actress but you were not quite satisfied with the scripts, what would you do?

According to Lara Dutta the scriptwriters in Bollywood aren’t writing anything in depth for a woman. All these times the scripts mainly centers on the hero (men) while the heroine (women) is the love interest. And the women-oriented films are half-baked attempts at feminist statements. Both to me are uninspiring.

That’s why Lara now is writing the script herself, but it’s not centered on women kind film.

“It has equal space for the male and female protagonists. It’s not one of those feminist, in-your-face women’s films. The male lead will have a lot to contribute to my film.”

Naturally, the film will also be produced by Lara herself. Soon, she said

Sharma: “I’ve made wrong choices..”

I remember watching Mohabbatein, but honestly I didn’t know if Kim Sharma was one of the actress played in the movie.

Anyway, after starring in Mohabbatein (the movie became a hit in 2000), Sharma in “Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai” (2002), “Fida” (2004) and “Tom, Dick and Harry” (2006). Unfortunately, those movies didn’t make it to box office like her first movie.

Sharma herself admitted that she has possibly made wrong choices in the films that she has done.

“But I feel as an actor, I can only do my job. I can’t control people’s reactions. And I don’t spend any time wondering why a certain film goes wrong. It’s okay.”

Yuvraaj: Bollywood Musical Drama

Yuvraaj is a musical story of a fragmented family of three brothers Deven Yuvraaj, Gyanesh and Danny. Fighting and playing games with each other to inherit thier father’s wealth. The story takes a curve when Anushka comes in to explain them the power of relationships over the power of money by using music to bind the love between them

Has Rajesh Khanna lost it?

One look at the promo of WAFAA and the immediate thought that comes to the mind is – Rajesh Khanna has truly lost it! Otherwise how else could one believe that the man who ruled the late 60s and early 70s could stoop down to working in a film which kick starts its promotion in a manner akin to that of a C Grade sex potboiler.

Directed by Rakesh Sawant, brother of Rakhi Sawant, WAFAA indeed looks like the one if the first look of the film is anything to go by. A sleaze fest in the making all the way, the movie showcases Rajesh Khanna as a multi millionaire who comes in close proximity of a sex–starved airhostess (played by Saana Khan, import from Pakistan) who is desperate to marry him only for his wealth.

Nothing wrong with the theme; after all one has seen countless films and TV serials with a theme like this. What is astonishing though is the manner in which the subject seems to have been treated. While Amitabh Bachchan’s tryst with a girl much younger than him was treated in a classy manner by Ram Gopal Varma in NISHABD, WAFAA looks like the kind of film which used to be screened in morning shows in the times when single screens ruled before the advent of multiplexes.

Even though Rajesh Khanna has claimed that after acting in over 170 movies, he doesn’t need to do a film which has vulgarity as its theme, his director Rakesh Sawant seems to be thinking otherwise, especially with his portrayal of Khanna and Saana in the film.

Now whether Rajesh Khanna has been truly conned or he himself got into the film well aware about how it would be treated – that’s something which only Mr. Khanna can answer!

SRK has a confidante!

Shah Rukh Khan has a confidante!   It was way back in mid–June that we broke the news about Vinay Pathak being there with Shah Rukh Khan in RAB NE BANA DI JODI, a story that was picked up by every possible source. Well, as always we bring you the latest about Vinay Pathak’s character in the Aditya Chopra directed Shah Rukh Khan–Anushka Sharma starrer.

As per reliable sources, Vinay Pathak essays a very important role in the film. He is Shah Rukh Khan’s supremely confident ‘know all’ friend and confidante, a sort of an ‘agony uncle’, whose advice SRK seeks for his problems.

Infact, Vinay’s role is very critical to the RAB NE BANA DI JODI script. In the film, SRK plans his strategy to win the respect of his beloved, in consultation with Vinay. In a way, the whole film revolves around the SRK–Vinay interactions and the outcome of their ‘brainstorming’ sessions!

Here’s looking forward to the SRK–Vinay team in RAB NE BANA DI JODI on December 12.

De Taali

Everybody Put Your Hands Together -The Other De Taali (Sunidhi Chauhan,Anushka Manchanda & Shaan) - This song really had a chance of being something extraordinary - if only the lyrics were better! Give this song a couple listens and you will hooked despite the corny lyrics. V-S sure do know what they are doing. Rating: ?????

De Taali (Sunidhi Chauhan & Shaan) - Even though this is another title song, it is completely different than the other version. Despite its efforts to be peppy, this one dissapoints! Stick to the other De Taali! Rating: ?????

Aaj Mein Boond Hoon (Shreya Ghosal & Shekhar Ravjiani) - Nothing entirely great about the music of this song…but Shreya’s singing makes this one worth listening to. Shekhar of V-S doesn’t sound too bad himself. Rating: ?????

Hone Lagi (Anushka Manchanda & Shekhar Ravjiani) - Here is the best song of the album…the hooo hone lagi part is what makes it stand out. Nice one by V-S!! Rating: ?????

Maari Teetri (Raja Hasan[saregama fame]) - Another song that had a chance to be something big but the lyrics bring it down. In fact, half of it seems like it’s in some other language. Rating: ?????

Tooti Phooti (Sunidhi Chauhan,Shaan & K.K) - This song wasn’t strong to begin with, but the she’s gone part ends all possibilities. Rating: ½????

Interview with Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit speaks about her comeback, kids, husband, and working in Aaja Nachle in this exclusive interview with Vinay Tripathi.

madhuri-dixit

You used to act as Bollywood heroes, you’ve got married..yet you managed to comeback. How do you feel?

My kids Aryan and Ryan were 2 and a half and 4 and a half when I decided that now I could do something for me. Coincidentally, it was at that time only that I got an offer from Yash Raj Films, and the best part was that it suited me to a T. As you said, it is a comeback for me, so it comes with responsibilities too.

But recently Kajol made her comeback [with YRF’s Fanaa] and I must say that was an inspiration for me. I am aware about the responsibility being on me, as it’s a no-hero film. I am not bothered about the film’s success, as the very attempt of a woman-empowerment subject in film is a big thing for me.

What makes you excited about the movie?

It has theatre, dance and music in it, and that was good for me. It’s realistic, and the role I play is of a character coming back to her country after 10 years. So one can see there are so many parallel things running between me and Diya [her character]. I could identify myself with her.

The other factor was Yashji. I have worked with him in the past as well. When he said the film will be completed in some months, I had no reason to say no.

You said yes to the movie, was there something going on in your mind at that time?

Hmmm. To be honest, there were many things going on: will I be able to act? Going from Denver to Mumbai; leaving my kids alone. And after five years, will the audience accept me?

What was your husband’s opinion?

Of course, before saying yes to the film we had a discussion. He told me if I am comfortable working, and if I can manage work and kids, he said I must do it. Because this is the time I can do something for me. He always supports me.

How about the kids? Are they excited to see their mommy on billboards and on TV?

They love the songs of the film. They dance whenever the song comes on TV. They don’t know Hindi but gaane sun sun kar thoda bahut sikh gaye hain [have learnt bits of it by hearing the songs over and over again]. They are too young to understand that their mom is into acting and everything. For them, seeing mom on TV and posters is a big deal! (Laughs)

Things have been different since you’ve been away. What changed have you seen so far? Could you able to adjust to the change?

During our times, we were never sure when the shooting was going to take place. Because the producer was not sure when he will get the money from the financer. So, as he used to get money, we were informed about shooting the next day. Due to this, sometimes writers used to write dialogues and scenes on the sets. It was chaos.

But now you have a bound script before the shooting. Technology saves time. I remember previously, it used to take hours for changing the trolley. The best part is sync-sound. You shoot in sync-sound so it saves the time of dubbing. You have been given a time-frame, and you know the film will be complete in that time.

I think this is a really good thing that’s happening to our industry. I was numb and blank when I first faced the camera but as things started I forgot I was away from all this for five years. It was like I had never gone away from here.

SRK and Abhishek Bachchan: we’re not an enemy..

The best way to wad off rumours is by doing the opposite of the rumours, just like Megastar Shah Rukh Khan did: he attended the premiere of Drona, Abhishek Bachchan’s film. This was enough to put an end to the gossip that said there’s a war between himself and Amitabh Bachchan.

“All the disputes between me and Mr. Bachchan are media created and there is no ill feeling between us,” pointed Shakh Rukh to the reporters.

He then went on saying “At this point in my career, I should always talk about how good it is to be an actor so that people get positive impression about the actors and Bollywood in particular. We should stay away from the gossips because it does no good to anybody.”

King Khan who came with his wife Gauri even hugged Abhishek and wished him all success for his film.

“I am excited to see Abhishek in the film. I think he has really put in great efforts for the film and I wish him all success.”
